There's nothing more frustrating than wanting to accomplish something, but, no matter what you do, you just can't seem to get anything to move. For whatever reason, you're just simply stuck.
It can be like sitting in quick sand - the harder you try, the more stuck you become - a twisted paradox that can get to the best of us! It only makes sense that the harder you work, the more you're going to accomplish. But as experience will tell you, sometimes this is simply not the case.
Sometimes what you need to do is "flow for it" ...
Here are some things you can try in order to create movement:
(Notice how paradox is used in most of them ...)
Do Nothing
Permission to do and accomplish absolutely nothing for the moment.
You can say, "I'm not doing it! I'm blowing off the work/problem." Once your mind gets it that it now has permission to let it go, it does, and immediately your mind starts to relax. In the absence of pressure, the idea comes to mind, the problem gets solved - you end up doing the thing that you just said you weren't going to do! That's the power of paradox at play - permission to go in the opposite direction to get the result I want without excessive pressure.
When I was studying electrical engineering, I'd play my drum instead of do my homework. Later, when I went to percussion school, I found myself not wanting to play drums and would find something else to do. Same activity, two completely different responses.
I've found that I can release the pressure created by the should's and the must's by giving myself permission to do nothing ... for now.
Sometimes, if the ideas aren't flowing and that damn cursor is blinking at me, I'll say the hell with it, I'm blowing it off and taking a nap! But, I will bring a marker and pen, just in case any ideas come up. And guess what happens. Just as I start to doze off the ideas start streaming. I've often got more work doing "nothing" than by doing the something!
Seek the Effortless
Letting the work do you instead of you doing the work.
Act As If
Acting as if it's already a done deal
Move Your Body
The rhythm of walking, dancing, swaying, and other repetitive movements can act as a conduit for ideas to flow.
Pick Up a Sock
Clearing the clutter in my environment will often free up the clutter in my head.
Go To The Natural
Surrounding yourself in natural environments can change your state of being and, in turn, your momentum.
